Speed is of the essence (Ray Barnes/BSOA)

Around 700 competitors turned out at yesterdays British Schools Orienteering Championships, held at Sandringham Country Park. Times, as expected, were fast and winning margins were tight with lost seconds meaning lost places. One of the biggest winning margins was that of Andrew Llewellyn who won the B13 class by 4 minutes while in G12 Stefanie Blomquist also won by 4 minutes. The G13 class however was the opposite with less than 30 seconds covering the top 3, Tessa Hill taking the title ahead of Helen Gardner and Jess Halliday. British Squad Members Graham Gristwood and Helen Winskill were on hand to talk to the competitors and sign autographs throughout the day, not to mention deal with the mammoth task of presenting all the prizes.
