The european youth championships kicked off today in Šumperk, Czech Republic with the sprint championships.
It was a day of mixed fortunes for the GB team. The top result came from Ruth Holmes taking 9th spot in W18 class 1.20mins down on the winner Šárka Svobodná who takes the title for Czech Republic. Tessa Hill & Stefanie Blomquist pulled out solid runs to finish 36th & 37th respectively.
In the mens it was Douglas Tullie who found himself 1.49secs down on the winner but that only managed to secure 34th place showing that competition was much tighter. The M18 title was again taken by the host country by Štìpán Kodeda who completed the 2.6km course in 11.47mins. David Schorah was the next best brit in 53rd place.
The M16 was also taken by the host nation, by Jakub Zimmerman, showing real strength on home terrain. Hungarys' Dorottya Péley stopped a clean sweep though by winning the W16 title.
