woc selection race :: middle
'Cometh the hour, Cometh the man' John 4.23
'GEEEEEEZZZZEERRR' Matthew Speake
The middle race brought its own flavour to the weekends proceedings Weston Heath and Bury Wells was an interesting choice of venue with a succession of high impassable crags which mirrors some of what might be found in the Czech Republic. The vegetation for some of the early starters brought its own issues for the runners despite the best efforts of the organisers.
In the racing a fantastic effort from Oli Johnson brought home his first win of the weekend and surely a position in the WOC Team. The plaudits went to Matthew Speake after a year ravaged with injury resulting in Speakey coming into these races looking to achieve a place in the team. The view from the forest remarking that both Oli and Speakey were out there looking mean trying to make this one count as they aim to head to Czech. Scott Fraser looking very classy at the moment took the third position and his second podium position of the weekend. Both Scott and Oli starting to think about which luggage to take and also Speakey enjoying the moment of a fantastic result.
In the women's race it was all change as we found three new faces on the podium for the middle to add to the selectors headache. This time a storming run from Rachel Elder took the win. Mhairi Mckenzie, fresh back from a year making Norway better, took second place thirty seconds down from Rachel and Jenny Johnson, now retired from international competition, taking third place.
