woc selection race :: long
Derice Bannock: Sanka... you dead?
Sanka Coffie: Ya, mon.
The heat and the physicality of the weekend meant that a lot of the top athletes 'died' out on Brown Clee this weekend, with 15 athletes in the men's race not completing the course and many others across the elite courses struggling greatly.
Top names such as Matt Crane, Neil Northrop and Murray Strain all found the heat difficult to deal with. However, heat was applied elsewhere with scorching performances from two old hands in the Men's race. Having represented GBR at World Champs for over a decade, it was no surprise that Jamie Stevenson took the top spot after a relatively quiet weekend. Jon Duncan, his team mate from the 2003 Relay Bronze, was in second and Oli Johnson, rounding off a fine weekend in third. Graham Gristwood, fully recovered after 11 hours sleep, finished fourth, four minutes clear of Scott Fraser and Matthew Speake in fifth and sixth places respectively.
The women's race saw Pippa Whitehouse round off an impressive weekend with another win. The South Yorkshire pair of Aussie Grace Elson and Jenny Johnson continued their finet form, finishing in second and third, not far ahead of Sarah Rollins in fourth.
