Shamrock O-Ringen 2009
Cork Orienteering Club are delighted to announce details of the 2009
Shamrock O-Ringen. This 3-Day competitive orienteering event will once again
be held in the South West corner of Ireland with the event centre being
located in Killarney, County Kerry. This will be the 16th Shamrock O-Ringen
since the inaugural event held back in 1989 which was based in Inchigeela,
West Cork.
The 2009 event returns to some of the most challenging and scenic terrain
that was first used at the 1998 World Cup event. The event will be held on
the June Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland, beginning with a middle distance
event on The Black Lakes map on Saturday May 30th, Sunday's event will be
held on the classic Crohane map and Monday's (June 1st) race will take place
in the beautiful parkland of Muckross and Killarney National Park.
With all areas being remapped for this event, CorkO promise a challenging
three days of testing orienteering combined with a good social programme,
including the "Shamrock Sessions".
Online entries are now open at www.corko.net/shamrock
The event centre will be based at Killarney Race Course, which is located
within 15 minutes walk of the town centre. Killarney is a bustling tourist
town and has a vast array of accommodation, restaurants and tourist
attractions so whatever your age or interests, Killarney is sure to offer
you a superb time - Walking & Trekking, Cycling, Golfing, Fishing,
Sightseeing, Shopping, Music, Art & Culture, History & Heritage, Dining etc
We look forward to meeting many of our previous competitors and assure you
all of a very warm welcome at the 2009 Shamrock O-Ringen.
