Severe damage to forests of SW France
TV coverage invariably seeks out the worst they can film, but the damage to the Landes from Tempete Klaus looks pretty bad, it is said that 60 percent of the (mature) trees are down. Many of the locations mentioned in the French news are places I have visited in the O context such as Mimizan, Parentis, Pyla and Lacanau. Many of those from the UK I have spoken to about this did not hear about it at the time but it is safe to presume there has been a lot of damage to the mapped areas. The initial priority has been to simply open up the track system in preparation for the fire-risk season.
