Ultrasprint at Cliffhanger, 12 July Sheffield
Matt Crane in action at the 2008 Ultrasprint
The UltraSprint will once again return to the Cliffhanger festival of outdoor sport in Millhouses Park, Sheffield on Sunday 12 July. Come and test yourself against the top orienteers in the country over a series of short, sharp qualifying rounds and finals. All courses are high intensity and incorporate sections of parkland, woodland and a specially constructed labyrinth. Winning times will be around 5 minutes for each stage and all competitors will run a minimum of four races. Qualifications begin at 11am and finals begin at 1pm, so you should have plenty of time to take in the rest of the attractions at Cliffhanger--including the chance to try archery, caving, climbing, kayaking, kite-flying, parkour, mountain biking, scubadiving, a ropes course, and much more all free of charge. Stick around after your run to hear a talk by relay World Champion Graham Gristwood in the film and lecture marquee. Visit www.cliff-hanger.co.uk for more info.
Tickets to Cliffhanger cost £5 for adults and are free for under 16s. Entry to the orienteering UltraSprint is
FREE, but you will need to register for an entry via the SYO website: www.southyorkshireorienteers.org.uk. The event is suitable for all ages and abilities and everyone competes in the same competition, so you can compare yourselves with the very best. Some top prizes will this year be provided by Inov8 and Garmin, with a Forerunner 405 up for grabs for the winner in the open men's and women's categories.
