British WOC team selection races

The WOC Selection races will be held in Scotland from May 14th - 16th and entries are now open. Friday 14th will see a sprint race at Erskine near Glasgow, with Saturday and Sunday seeing events near Oban with a middle distance race at Ardnaskie and a classic on Creag Mhic Chailein.

Sprint race Friday 14th May - Erskine (Glasgow),

Start times will be from no earlier than 5.30pm and start lists will be seeded with the faster athletes starting last.

This new venue for orienteering offers predominantly urban terrain with some small areas of woodland. Please note that rush hour through Glasgow can be slow and tends to start early on a Friday (from around 3pm). For anyone approaching the event by car from the east the M8 can be very busy and slow through Glasgow. Those travelling from Glasgow airport shouldn’t experience too much slow traffic.

Middle race Saturday 15th May - Ardnaskie (Oban),

Starts from no earlier than 1130 and the start list will be seeded. The terrain is very varied, with areas of open hilly ground, marsh, closed canopy woodland areas, patches of rhododendrons and an area plantation of mature pine. Visibility is generally good and the area should provide demanding middle distance racing.

Long race Sunday 16th May - Creag Mhic (Oban).

Starts are from 0900 and the start list will be seeded. The terrain has previously been used for both a British Championships, a World Championships selection race and the Purple Thistle so should prove a challenging venue for a long distance race. It is a mixture of open hilly ground and closed canopy woodland areas (mainly oak). The open ground is likely to be wet and has been lightly grazed in recent years which means it can be slow going in places.

The following areas are therefore embargoed for all prospective WOC Selection Race competitors.

  • Erskine
  • Ardnaskie
  • Creag Mhic

All embargoed areas can be viewed here & online entries are available on OEntries.
