event :: Italian Five Days
As part of the build up to the World Championships a number of British Orienteers attended the Italian Five days in the Valle de Non area of Italy.
Heather Munro showed good form ahead of the trip to Japan winning the overall women's elite title coming first in four out of the five days beating Renate Fausner of Italy by 15 mins overall. Helene Hausner of Denmark was third overall. Rachel Elder also ran well during the week despite missing the first day Rachel recorded a second place on day four, beating Heather in the process, and three more top ten positions. Hazel Dean was also competing in the elite class finishing in 16th place overall
In the Men's Elite class Jamie Stevenson just missed out on the podium positions coming in fourth place. Michele Taverno of Italy took the glory ahead of Italian convert Misha Mamleev. Marian Davidk of Slovakia was third.
More podium position were found in the men's A class where Mark Bown pipped Mike Sprot for second place. Mike held a big advantage over Mark till the final day when Mike slipped to 26 for the final race.
Nick Taylor was the other British winner coming in first in the Men's Short.
In H35 there were two Brits on the podium with Martin Ward winning the event and Mark Hayman coming third. Arvid Molnvik of Norway seperated the two Brits.
In H45 Martin Dean was third finishing 12 minutes behind the winner overall.
