Team GB take 3rd - picture from spring cup website
Vehkalahden Veikot and Ulricehamns OK took the Mens and womens open relay titles in Snowy Denmark on Sunday as teams from Finland and Sweden dominated the top spots. This years race was always going to be a tough race with many of the big names of the orienteering world turning out in preperation for WOC in Denmark this year.
British interest was high as usual and there were some great runs. Jamie Stevenson brought Farum Tisvilde OK home in 5th place despite losing a minute when he lost his SI card in the snow! An ever-present name in leading 1st relay groups, David Brickhill-Jones was part of the 6th placed Halden team and there were top finishes from Jon Duncan, Oli Johnson and Matt Crane. Looks like GB have the makings of a strong relay team this year.
In the womens race there were also some top 20 places for GB in form of BUSA champion Rachel Elder, Halden's Heather Monro and Becky Carlyle running for Järfälla OK with Helen Palmer just out of the top 20 in 23rd place. Again promising signs for Team GB.
It was not just the seniors that were showing good form however, a full GB team of Dave Schorah, John 'Nacke' and Doug Tullie clinched an impressive 3rd place in H18 class with Doug putting in the 2nd fastest time of the day on 3rd leg. Also Scott Fraser capped a cracking weekend of results by putting in one of the fastest times on 1st leg in mens open for Halden 2, whilst Graham Gristwood had a blinding last leg to get 2nd fastest time of the day in front of the cream of the world's elite.
