eoc :: silver for stevenson
The European Champions kicked off in great style for the British Team, where Jamie Stevenson claimed a silver medal, just five seconds behind the (now) three times European Sprint champion, Emil Windstedt of Sweden.
In the morning qualifiers Jamie, Jon Duncan and Graham Gristwood all claimed places in this afternoons final. Oli Johnson didn't run while Rob Baker and Matt Crane narrowly missed out.
Jon ran a solid race to finish 36th, while Graham lost a lot of time before the first radio control, but came back strongly, only losing 24 seconds to Jamie over the rest of the course.
But Jamie is undoubtedly the star of the day, a solid start put him 10 seconds behind at the 4th control, but those faster than him could not maintain the speed, and he punched the spectator control with an identical time to the (then leader) Russian Andrei Khramov. He then pushed hard over the last minute of the course to open up a 2 second lead. He held onto his lead for nearly the whole race, it was only heat-winner Wingstedt with the third last start number who could better him.
