woc-live :: middle final women
A reasonable day for the British women in todays middle final. Sarah Rollins had a good run to finish in 16th place. Sarah spoke to the nopesport team at the end of her race.
Sarah really wanted a good clean run today and wasn't focused on a good result. The route choices were all 'mega safe' and Sarah turned it into a big yellow course. the area can be described as very similar to ash ranges with a combination of fast forest and areas of heather. Rachel remarked the difference between the first and second parts of the race the second half is a lot busier with tv controls, the sounds of the arena and the number of people out in the area.
Sarah was disapointed with the sprint a distance that she specialises in. A 45s mistake at number one 'threw it away'
Today Sarah was nervous at the start and after the sprint really wanted a clean run. The weather today is very humid and so Sarah was feeling slightly unwell with stomach cramps.
Its been a mixed week for Sarah disapointment in the Sprint where she felt she was capable of top 10. She managed a top 20 position beating her pb of 22nd in Sweden 2004.
Rachael Elder finished in 28th place after a tough week for the debutant.
Rach told us that she made a minute and a half mistake after the spectator control. A wrong path meant that she 'blew it'. After the specatator control there is a steep hill where Rach took the wrong angle. there was also a small 20 second mistake in the first half. There is a marked difference in the two areas. the second hald is bushy and with areas of heather making tough running. Rach was tired after the classic race and was totally exhausted at the end. Rach was disapointed with todays efforts due to her large mistake. If she had kept going as she had done in the first half then today would have been a good day for her.
This is Rach's debut at WOC and she was pleased with the qualifiers. She has no expectations for the long final but believed she did well. Rach was concentrating more on the middle and felt she didn't justify this today. this has been a learning experience for her and she'll be strong for next year in Ukraine but more importantly she'll be stronger for World Students in one week.
Helen Bridle finished in 35th place.
Simone was very pleased with her run today. She heard from Matthias Niggli that she was ahead of Tatiana and Marianne. Simone was much more relaxed today. There was lots of pressure at the long distance final.
Marianne won once again a silver medal but was very satisfied but disappointed with the small mistakes. The terrain was as expected. Marianne has been on good form hoping to be in the fight for the medals.
Tanja was very happy with her second medal from WOC . Her race today was good and she knew After classic distance she could be near the medals.
