Varsity Match 2005
The 34th annual Cambridge vs Oxford battle heads overseas to Sweden this year, to the Järfälla region near Stockholm on the 18th & 19th of March. Races will be held in terrain quite disimilar to last year's race on Wimbledon Common, with runnable forest and challenging technical contour detail. The men's match will be decided over a 9km course while the women will have about 7km. A fun mixed relay takes place the following day.
Cambridge will be hoping that going abroad can help them recover from last year's drubbing where Oxford took the top 3 on both men's and women's A courses as Oxford ran out easy winners. In fact, the last time Cambridge won the Varsity match was also the last time it went overseas 3 years ago, again near Stockholm at Hellasgarden, so perhaps history is in their favour. Oxford still have a long way to go to make up the deficit in the overall scores with Cambridge leading 20 to 13 in the men's matches and 18 to 10 in the women's.
