British Elites Sprint + Middle
This year's British Sprint champs will be run around the historic Sandhurst Royal Military Academy. The terrain is a mix of urban/campus detail with small pockets of woodland- a really fantastic venue for this competition with numerous historic buildings, statues, tanks, cannons etc. For the first time there will be qualification rounds with the 16 best qualifiers competing in the A final, but all runners will have two runs as there will be B, C... finals run over the same courses. The event will be the first time the EMIT non punching system will be used in an orienteering event in Britain
Sunday sees the British Middle Distance Championships which will have the same event centre and is taking place on The Devils Pound. The terrain is a military training area and has numerous earth diggings, a complex path network, and plenty of contour detail. The running is generally fast with areas of younger trees reducing running and visibility.
The races are being used by the British and Belgian teams as selection for the World Cups in England. So its an exciting weekend of fast, competitive, challenging orienteering -one to take part in.
