ar :: the deerstalker returns
Detail Events have been foraging in the woods and hills around Traquair and are taking this classic event into its second year.
The Deerstalker is an "adventure run" with distance options at 5 km (ish) and 10 km (and a bit). Devilishly vague about the true distances, you shouldn't worry as more (worrying) info is provided nearer to the event! Described affectionately as a "big, muddy romp" through the countryside, forests and hills around the famous Borders village of Innerleithen, which is currently renowned as a World centre for mountain biking. It will be renowned for much more than this when the Deerstalker comes to town! Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland, provides a stunning backdrop at the event centre, where runners will be greeted by Tweed-clad sporting officials and their very own, specially brewed "Deerstalker Ale", already fermenting nicely under the watchful eyes of the Laird, who has been brewing beer here for generations.
The inaugural event in 2007 caused quite a stir. Participants were toughened and tickled by the whole spectacle. Expect 2008 to be even bigger and bolder. The event is one month earlier this year, just to give that big pond after the start even more chance of freezing over!
The Deerstalker is a turbo-charged roller coaster of a run. It's fun, it's fast, it's action-packed and it's as tough as you can bear. This is Fun Run meets Fell Race meets Hellrunner meets Tough Guy. It's Rat Race in the countryside and it's much more besides. This is what 'Ray' had to say....
'Just a quick mail to let you know how much I enjoyed my 1st adventure run at 52 yrs old.... The Mighty Deerstalker. The race (10k) was absolutely brilliant, I loved it, even the scree....the organisation was exceptional with patience being shown for people like me as a newcomer to the sport. I am sure the whole day proved a resounding success and I am left with some brilliant memories. Hopefully I will be back next year for more of the same. All that remains is to say a great BIG thanks to yourself and all concerned in making my day fantastic. THANKS, Ray'
