SUSF Sprint Champs Results
The Scottish University Sports Federation Sprint Championships were held today at Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh. 14 of Scotland's finest competed over 2.3 km of physically demanding terrain in inclement conditions.
results:
Womens
1. Heather Gardner EUOC 18.12
2. Mhairi Mackenzie EUOC 19.35
3. Alison O'Neil EUOC 19.45
Mens
1. Murray Strain EUOC 15.00
2. Ed Nicholas EUOC 17.45
3. Andrew Dalgleish St Andrews 18.15
With top runners from Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Napier and Heriott Watt Universities, one minute start intervals, a specially prepared 1:5000 map and a well planned course, the racing was fast and furious. The men's course saw surprise 2nd and 3rd places for Ed Nicholas and Andrew Dalgleish respectively. This may have been largely due to the absence of a number of top EUOC runners who had headed south to compete in the FCC races. Ed was pleased, however, to be ahead of the girls.
Heather "Ethel" Gardner ran well and put the youth in their place.
The classic round of the SUSF Champs will be held in conjunction with the AROS Elite Test in April.
