Overall Mens UK Cup
This year’s UK Cup has been an interesting one for the men, with 6 of the races attracting nearly every top athlete (JK, Triple O-Severn and the Lakes weekend). However, with 5 of our top athletes, Jamie StevensonTM, Dan Marston, Richard Wren, Stephen Palmer and Jon Duncan, not running the full 6 races left the door wide open for who would win the men’s title.
Ed Nash quickly laid claim to that coveted title, with a total of 4 wins including the British Nights and British Elite Classic. Matt Crane put in a number of top performances, including 2nd places at the JOK Sprint, Triple O-Severn Short and British Elite Short – any chance of some top classic runs next year? Matt Speake showed that youth has its advantages claiming 3rd spot in his first year as an M21, with only 1 of his 10 runs in this year’s competition not being inside the top 10. Nicholas Morgan in 4th place, competing in the bare minimum of 6 races, looks a very good bet for the future, as does Ewan McCarthy who rounded off a decent season with the British Elite Short title and finishing in 5th place overall. Jamie StevensonTM took the title of British Sprint Champion for the second year running, as well as the JK title. Top junior this year went to Graham Gristwood in 31st place, though he only finished 4 races. Other race winners include Allan Bogle (JOK Sprint), Stephen Palmer (Triple O-Severn Short), Nick Barrable (Triple O-Severn Classic).
Congratulations to all, especially the younger runners who prevented anyone over the age of 25 from finishing in the top 6 of this years competition.
