OK Nuts Trophy
The OK Nuts trophy is a race held in memory of British Champion Mike Wells Cole, who died tragically young in 1976. This years OK Nuts race followed the format of the last few years by being a mass start loop race. What was different from the last few years however, was the strength of the field, given the presence of the full GBR Squad. It was probably one of the 5 strongest fields in Britain this year!
The race was held on Hankley Common, and the three loop format and open Heathland made it very spectator friendly, while the sections in the forest were challenging enough to make it interesting.
In the mens race Matt Crane found himself running alone. His target of 'pushing hard' paid off, by the time the courses came together he was two minutes clear, and cruised home to victory. The 'real' race was being fought out behind him, with places 2-11 finishing within 40 seconds of each other. Junior Graham Gristwood edged out Allan Bogle for second, while Stephen Palmer had to settle for 4th after having to return to the last control after punching too fast!
Best 'non-squaddie' was M45 Colin Dickson, who put on a very strong performance to take a number of 'scalps'.
Heather Monro won the womens class by a similar margin but there was less packing going on, with Sarah Rollins holding a minute lead over Pippa White house. Best 'non-squaddie' was Alison High of CROC.
Every year the organisrs get together to judge the best junior performance. This year it was awarded to Johnathon Crickmore, for his 7th place on the C course.
