A good week of orienteering at the Deeside Scottish 6 Day concluded on Saturday at Glen Dye. Known as one of the best areas in Britain it was the perfect way to end the week and also to settle the overall class winners. This was highlighted by the main event of the day, the conclusion of the 21 Elites. The format was of a chasing start & it was Matthias Niggli & Jenny Eriksson who led the way. Each of them had a significant lead and if they both had clean runs were odds on to hold on to 1st position. They did not disappoint and even managed to extend their leads over the chasing elites to claim the 21E titles.

In the M21E the top 3 were dominated by visiting runners as Andreas Mueller took 2nd place with Denmarks’ Jesper David Jensen over-taking ShUOC’s Matt Crane during the chase to claim 3rd. Matt was the highest placed Brit in 4th.

In W21E it was local MAROC runner Sarah Dunn who caught Pippa Whitehouse and finished in 2nd place. Pippa managed to hold on to 3rd. ShUOC’s Rachel Elder finished the week off with an excellent run pulling herself up from 7th to 4th in the chase.
It was not just in the elite classes that top places were up for grabs with many other classes still too close to call until the final day had been run. With so many classes I will not attempt to go through them all so to find out everybody faired you can find the results at the Deeside 2005 page.

From Nopesport, a big congratulations to all those winners & thanks goes out to all who were involved in this years Scottish 6 Day in what was a very enjoyable, well run event.
