poll :: best junior male
Honorary mention: Duncan Coombs, Mar, Edinburgh University, OK Tyr (SWE).
Duncan dominated the domestic season in M18, winning the JK and FCC titles comfortably. He went on to make his JWOC debut in Switzerland in July, where in the fierce heat and physical courses he fought hard to take a 75th place in the Classic. Surely the highlight of his year will be his 8th place at the Junnior European Cup, a result which puts him well-poised for great things next year
Winner.
Our winner was a late starter in Orienteering, but this year he really flourished. Again, a comfortable winner in both JK and FCC, he had to go to the Nordic Championships in Norway to get some real competition. There he made mistakes which kept him off the top, but the signs were right that he was in great shape and could really do something special. The location was to be Ticino, in southern Switzerland, again round the streets of a Swiss Old Town bringing a sense of déjà vu to the occasion. He took the title of Post Finance Junior Sprint Champion – an unofficial World Champion at the last JWOC not to include sprint. He went on that week to record the best set of JWOC results ever scored by a British Male.
Our NopeSport.com forum user’s Junior Male of the Year is, of course, Scott Fraser.
