poll :: event of the year
Honorary Mentions: Purple Thistle, Scottish Six-Day.
Despite not being a fixture on the orienteering calendar, it achieved what it set out to do: great orienteering experiences with minimum fuss. Small, friendly, tough, wild, sociable and a test of survival could all be descriptions of this weekend event in the South West Highlands. Intrigued? The PT will return with more fantastic orienteering in 2006.
The Six-Day saw a rejuvenation this year, with a lively campsite and marquee sited within a National Trust Castle. The clash with Status Quo and Ocean Colour Scene concerts was welcomed, and set up a explosive weeks racing and orienteering.
In one weekend in early May, most of the British and World orienteering public turned its attention to the South-East of England. A five-day event, a schools festival, junior selection races, FCC and UKCup counters and of course, international competition. For some it was the spectacle of watching the Worlds Elite tackle the familiar terrain of those parts, for others it was the fresh challenge of sprint racing round Surrey University or Battersea Park or the incredible new map of Leith Hill. Whatever it was, we are proud to announce that the final NopeSport.com users award of the Year goes to the World Cup / Surrey 5-O weekend.
