The Welsh Orienteering Championships took place this weekend. The two day event was being hosted this year by ERYRI.
day 1 saw the short open visiting Glan Faenol near Bangor with the results using the same handicap system as last time round with times adjusted according to a mysterious 'BOF speed ratio'. Young welsh flier Rhodri Buffett obviously decided to pass on an epic journey to the FCC race in Scotland to run is National Championship and in turn took the Short title. he had by far the quickest race on the day but the handicap system meant he only just pipped W50 Caroline Dallimore by 2secs! Alice Bedwell took 3rd despite being 3mins quicker than Caroline 11mins slower that Rhodri.
Braich Bryn Engan was the venue for the welsh orienteering crowd celebrated their patron saint (St David) and decided the welsh classic distance champions. Rhodri couldn't quite make it a double as he was comfortably beaten by fell-runner Tim Higginbottom in the M21L class. Mark Saunders completed the top 3 in the class. In the womens race Alice Bedwell went one better than the previous day finishing in 2nd in a race that was won by Jackie Bale. Kath Broatch finished 3rd but was a full 10mins off the top two's pace.
