ssoc :: Fraser & Carlyle win
The sun had it's hat on and was out to play for the scottish sprint championships held at Heriot Watt University yesterday with Scott Fraser and Becky Carlyle taking the spoi;s in the open race.
The event used a different format from last year with a morning qualifier and final in the afternoon. Murray Strain, recovering from his birthday celebrations from the night before, led the way in the mens open class, winning with a time of 16.38 for the 2.9km course with John Musgrave just behind him and set to chase him down in the afternoon. Helen Palmer set the pace in the womens open class, 30secs ahead of Sarah Dunn with eventual winner, Becky carlyle in 3rd.
the morning times determined the run order within each class for the afternoon with slowest going first. Unfortunatelu Helen Palmer had to pull out of the afternoon race as she was feeling a slight niggle leaving Sarah Dunn to chase. She had to settle for 2nd place with Becky Carlyle taking the win by over 1min. Hazel Dean completed the top three.
In the mens race it was 4th starting Scott Fraser who posted the fastest time of the day completing the 3.3km course in 16.44 just 11secs ahead of the mornings pace-setter Murray Strain. EUOC's James Tullie took 3rd.
In the other classes Martin Dean took the M40+ title while Rachel Wilson took the W40+. AYROC's Alan Cherry completed the winners for the day taking 1st place in the M18- class.
