Scot(t) Fraser: relay & individual gold

England may have lost the rugby but they did regain the Senior Home International trophy from Scotland on a sunny weekend in South Wales which saw Ireland narrowly beat Wales for 3rd place overall.

England dominated the Women's competition, with 1-2-3s in junior (Tessa Hill, Anne Edwards, Jess Halliday) and senior (Laura Daniel, Karen Heppenstall, Pippa Whitehouse) individual races. They dominated the Women's relay, with the second dead heat of the day for a joint first position (Daniel, Hill, Heppenstall and Adams, Halliday, Carlyle).

For the other Nations Sarah Dunn (Scotland), Aislinn Austin (Ireland) and Kath Broatch (Wales) were the leading counters in W21, with Hollie Orr (Scotland) seeing off Welsh duo Clare Dallimore and Anwen Darlington in the W20 individual.

England did not enjoy so much success in the Men's competition. Duncan Coombs (M20) and Scott Fraser (M21) took big individual wins for Scotland and the first tie for victory in a tight Men's relay. A solid Irish team had several strong performances, notably Marcus Pinker's 5th place in the individual, backed up by good scoring from Shane Lynch and Niall Bourke.

Oli Johnson who took 3rd in both individual and relay for England said the Scottish Men were too strong for him, describing Fraser as "nippy" and Ewan McCarthy as "a beast on the hills" but in the end "the girls did the business" and the trophy went back to England for the first time since 2003.

That's the Junior and Senior Home Internationals wrapped up. Scotland host the Veteran Home Internationals, 17-18th November with the relays at Faskally and the individual held in conjunction with the STAG National Event at Calvine.
