Last year's UK Cup was a great, closely fought competition, but we at nopesport felt it was missing something for those armchair orienteering fans not involved in the forest. Thankfully we are pleased to announce that the Fantasy UK Cup is returning for 2008!

Thanks to some great work by Ed Nash, and generous support from title sponsors Compass Point, along with CompassSport and ourselves here at nopesport, we are again offering the chance for you to utilise your knowledge of British orienteering to try and win the Compass Point Fantasy UK Cup whilst supporting the British Squad.

The Fantasy UK Cup is an orienteering management game similar to Fantasy Football. You choose a team of 10 orienteers to compete across the UK Cup series then sit back and let them rack up points for you. At any point during the game you can make transfers if your team isn't performing as well as you would like, and at the end of the season, the team with the most points wins. But remember - some of the top runners may live abroad or not go to all the races - so use all your knowledge and choose your team wisely!

For those unsure as to why they should enter, there are a number of reasons. Not only will you be supporting the British Squad with your entry fee, it'll provide you with lots of fun as you try to topple twice Fantasy UK Cup winner Pete Huzan from the top of the leaderboard. For the materially minded, prizes are also being supplied by Compass Point, CompassSport and nopesport. What more motivation do you need?!

Your £3 entry fee will go towards improving the future of British orienteering through supporting the British Orienteering Squad Support Fund. The support fund offers small grants to athletes with World Class potential who come up with their own plan for self-organised training camps. This fund has in the past helped young orienteers to push themselves further, contributing to the medal-winning success of our current team. In 2007 several potential stars received grants, and applications are currently being considered for 2008.

So support British Orienteering and get your entries in quick, there are only a couple of weeks left until the UK Cup Season begins and your team of runners starts scoring points for you! Why not tell all your club-mates and organise a prize for the highest finishing club member? Or else organise a team full of all the top runners at your club to see how they fare against the fantasy elite teams? You're welcome to enter more than one team, so get geeking and get started on choosing your runners.

For full information on the Compass Point Fantasy UK Cup, complete with rules and details of how to enter, find out more over on the Fantasy UK Cup pages.
