gbr :: team selections
Selections for the Great Britain team for a number of upcoming international events have been announced today.
First up is Euromeeting, taking place in Hungary from 22nd to 25th May in terrain relevant for the World Championships in 2009. Euromeeting is an international competition aimed at upcoming members of National squads expected to be challenging for full national team places in forthcoming years. Comprising a Sprint, Long and Relay event it will provide a strong test for the British runners up against teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden, as well as hosts Hungary.
The GB team for Euromeeting looks like this, with a mix of youth and experience:
Men: Oleg Cheplin, Neil Northrop, John Rocke, Matt Speake and Doug Tullie
Women: Laura Daniel and Tess Hill.
Next up will be the European Championships, held the following week in Latvia. Comprising all three distances, along with a relay, these races will also form part of the 2008 World Cup series. Britain is sending a full team, and this comprises of:
Men: Matt Crane, Jon Duncan, Scott Fraser, Graham Gristwood, Oli Johnson and Jamie Stevenson
Women: Helen Bridle, Rachael Elder, Mhairi Mackenzie, Helen Palmer, Sarah Rollins and Pippa Whitehouse
Reserves: Neil Northrop and Helen Winskill
In June the next set of World Cup races take place in Norway, with Jon Duncan, Scott Fraser, Graham Gristwood and Pippa Whitehouse competing for Great Britain.
As well as all these selections there have been some initial selections for the World University Championships, taking place in Estonia at the end of July. Matt Crane, Scott Fraser and Rachael Elder have all earned their places so far with great results at BUSA, the JK and British Championships. Further selections will follow after the World Championships Selection races in June.
